  Chapter 7, The apology Lexi woke up in her dorm room to the sun coming in through her window. She realized she had cried herself to sleep without getting ready for bed. She vaguely remembered her friends knocking on her door but she’d ignored them. She wasn’t quite ready to talk about it. She headed down the hallway and to the bathroom. She looked at her reflection. Her hair was a rat’s nest, there were mascara stains around her eyes. She cleaned off her face and brushed her hair and then she cleaned her teeth.   Chapter 6, Questions and Answers      “So, Mad Maddy had her?” Bridgett asked as she sat down on the couch. Mal nodded. They were all on a video chat so they could discuss this funny business. Thaddeus shook his head. “The question is how she did it,” Everyone thought about it. Was it a breach in the barrier? Did she somehow manage to hack the system of no technology and contact someone? No one knew. No one could think of anything. “Was she framed?” Breanna asked. “Perhaps,” Ben sighed. A month later, Christmas was coming soon and Lexi and Thaddeus were planning the wedding.  Chapter 5, Here we go again Lexi was in her room, addressing wedding announcements. Thaddeus did their engagement photos just a few days before. Lexi was just putting the announcement in an envelope and addressing it to her grandparents, when her phone buzzed in her back pocket. Thinking it might be Thaddeus bidding her goodnight, she picked it up. But it wasn’t that. It was the group chat of both Auradonions and Americans. And it was from Ben. “Something bad has happened here! Mallory was kidnapped and we have no idea who did it! We need you to come here first thing in the morning…” Lexi gasped. “Oh, no! Chapter 4, Yup, things are about to get weird (again) “Wait! The tree!” Lexi exclaimed. Thaddeus and Lexi ran back to the backyard, Lexi calling out for her parents but they were already running outside. “What was all that commotion? Lexi, Thaddeus are you okay?” Mom asked in concern. But Lexi and Thaddeus were staring at the tree in bewilderment. The tree was just like it had been a few moments before. “The tree! It was just on fire!” Lexi exclaimed. Lexi’s parents looked at them in disbelief. “It was?” Dad asked. Thaddeus nodded. “It must have been some kind of magic! Lexi didn’t even see it happen,” Thaddeus explained. Then he dove right into the story of what happened. Lexi’s parents nodded. “Do you guys know who did it?” Lexi’s mom asked. Thaddeus and Lexi shook their heads. “No!   Chapter 3, Surprises Once upon a regular Tuesday, Karen Keene was sitting at home on her couch, looking on her Facebook, just browsing. She was just making fun of someone who posted about some stupid movie that had just come out, when she saw something that immediately caught her attention. She saw a post from Cristy Pieper. Or, Cristy Tolbert as her name was now. She a picture of her old school nemesis, Lexi Pieper.   And she was standing with Thaddeus Hawthorne. “Oh, she so does not deserve him,” she said with a huff and an eyeroll. “Why would you want her when you can have me?” she asked herself. “She’s as dumb as a box of rocks,” she muttered.   Chapter 2, True Love A couple of months had passed. Thaddeus had started going to the same college that Lexi was going to. Except, when you are a man and go on a service trip like that, when you get home, all the girls will stare at you. And that’s what happened to Thaddeus. He was just on the campus and all the girls started talking to him and whispering about him and staring at him. He could tell this irritated Lexi, though, which he found a little funny. Eventually, he shouted across the campus, “You guys know I’m not single, right?” “Aww!” all the girls said in unison and started muttering amongst themselves and Lexi, who was standing right next to Thaddeus, started laughing. Thaddeus had started taking a photography course because he was into that kind of thing. He didn’t realize it at the time, but after a couple months, he realized that that photography, made that perfect cover story for proposing in some place that is romantic.   Chapter 1, Permission A few weeks after Thaddeus got home, he was invited over to Lexi’s house for dinner. Lexi had called him and asked him if he wanted to come over and before he had accepted, he had to ask a serious question. “Are your brothers’ home?” he asked. “No,” Lexi had replied. “I’ll be there!” he had said enthusiastically. Lexi started laughing. “You know they might have forgiven you now,” Lexi giggled. Thaddeus let out a disbelieving chuckle. “Yeah, right after they ambush me as soon as I walk in the door,” Thaddeus joked. Lexi laughed even harder. So, Thaddeus came over for dinner. They had spaghetti and meatballs with lima beans. Lexi had told Thaddeus that lima beans were her favorite and Thaddeus had wanted try them, but he never got around to it.
