Chapter 18

Lexi awoke the morning after homecoming, still feeling the night’s giddiness as she made herself breakfast. Peaches and cottage cheese. Yummy! Just as she was going back up to room to text her friend’s good morning like she always did, she found someone had already texted her. It was Ben on their group chat.

Mad Maddy finally fessed up! Would it be alright if we called you at 1:00? Lexi was just texting back when Breanna got there first.

Yeah, that works! Lexi finished typing her message and sent it.

That would be excellent! So, at 12:30, they all headed to Breanna and Gabrielle’s house so Mal and Ben could just call one person and they would all hear what needed to be heard. Thaddeus came and picked Lexi up because he wanted to see her sooner and they got to Breanna’s house early so they could hang out a little before this little meeting and played a few rousing games of Taco, Cat, Goat, Cheese, Pizza. Then at exactly 1:00, Lexi’s phone rang.

“Okay, what happened?” she asked, clearly tired of being patient.

“Well, Mad Maddy’s guards were giving her and her prison mates their meals and talking about all that happened last night with Mal because they somehow knew and Mad Maddy and her pals started snickering and they lightly threatened her and she told them what she did. And she was the one who spelled the baby in,” Ben explained. The fangirls and Thaddeus nodded and just as Thaddeus was about to ask if they had caught Zevon yet, the doorbell rang. Breanna’s mom answered and they heard people talking downstairs and then, 

“Breanna! Someone’s here for you! He said his name’s Henry!”

Breanna jumped.

“I’ll be right back, guys!” Then she ran downstairs to meet him. All of the sudden, they heard a petrified gasp and then a thumping up the stairs and they saw Zevon holding Breanna in a head lock! Once he made up the stairs, he let Breanna go. It was weird, though. He had two black eyes and his nose looked a little more crooked than it had been before.

“Zevon! What are you doing here?!” Thaddeus shouted as he moved Lexi and the other fangirls behind him. “Oh, goodness. You look terrible,” he couldn’t help observing. Zevon smirked.

“Oh, I’m sorry. Should I look like this instead?” he said as he turned into a bronze-haired, muscular, blue-eyed hunk. Lexi’s mouth fell open.

“You?! It was you the whole time?!” she exclaimed in disbelief. Zevon nodded and snickered as he changed back into himself. Thaddeus wrapped his arm around Lexi and scowled at Zevon.

“How did you get out of the chains?” he asked angerly. Zevon chuckled.

“I had some help,” he told them as a smaller figure came out from behind him: A black-haired girl that must have been his sister. “This is Yazmine or as you know her, Lizzie.”

Lexi looked as though her whole life was a lie, which was fair, considering that this whole time she was dating a second-generation villain that had turned back to the dark side. Zevon snickered again as Breanna glared at him.

“Don’t you think we deserve an explanation of why you tried to hurt Auradon and hurt my best friend in process?” she growled as Lexi put an arm around her and mouthed the word,

“Thanks.”

Zevon looked absolutely delighted.

“Guess it couldn’t hurt to tell you since you’re about to go to a secure hold,” he began as Lexi nonchalantly turned the camara around on the video call so Mal and Ben could see. “I have always been in love with Mal but she never even noticed me. Luckily, I found somebody who hates her as much as I do now and we had to get revenge. But I left most of the Auradon work to Mad Maddy and I worked to hinder your help in any way that I could, so, I chose to choose one of you girls to pretend to date and cheat on and dump so that you would feel like you couldn’t do well in saving Auradon. And luckily the one who fell for Adam was just the one who had all of the emotional baggage and would be the easiest to sway.”

Thaddeus glared at him again.

“How did you know Lexi had a hard past?” he asked, his face burning.

“The same reason I know your parents are six feet under. I made both things happen.”

Little Yazmine gasped and looked up at her brother in shock. Thaddeus's eyes- his beautiful, gentle sea green eyes, grew wide before growing hard and cold beneath his glasses as he stepped forward until him and Zevon were practically nose to nose. Well, as nose to nose as they could be as Thaddeus was taller than Zevon by at least six inches.

"You what?" Thaddeus whispered, deadly serious and fuming.

"You heard me." Zevon shot back and Thaddeus grabbed him by his shirt collar and dragged him close enough to clutch Lexi's phone.

 "Your Majesties," Thaddeus said, a wicked grin spreading across his face. "I trust you would like this criminal locked up, yes?" 

 "We would," Ben replied, turning to Mal.

 "Zevon, you are under arrest for murder and treason to the crown," she said, her voice full of authority. "Thaddeus, would do us a favor and get him to Auradon?"

 "It would be our pleasure," Thaddeus said back as Breanna came up and created a portal and Thaddeus grabbed Zevon by the arms and jumped into the blue, swirling circle that showed the palace gates as Lexi and the others took Yazmine by the hands and leading her to the portal as well.
