Chapter 15 of the Fangirls, book two rewrite!!!!!!!:D:D
Chapter 15
“Okay, minor setback,” Lexi said, trying not to sound
concerned, and failing. Breanna looked at her like she was nuts.
“Minor?! She just died!” she reminded Lexi. Lexi nodded.
“We can salvage this!” First, they tried the defibrillator
about four or five and each time it didn’t work. “Okay, we’ll try this!” Then
they did a healing incantation (and, no, not the one from Tangled,) but that
didn’t work either. They were a very subdued lot, indeed. Lexi chewed on her
bottom lip as she started slipping back into her panicked, not-good-in-a-crisis
self. “Um, okay, this could still be fine, we just have to just write another
healing incantation, we’re gonna be fine- ”
“Lexi!” Breanna shouted above Lexi’s panicking. “She’s gone.
We just need to let her go.” she said as her eyes welled with tears. Lexi
finally let out the sob that she had been holding back and it wasn’t long
before they all began to cry. Thaddeus didn’t cry, but he didn’t look too
emotionally stable as he bent down to the floor where Lexi was sobbing harder
than she had even when Adam dumped her with her arms wrapped as tight as they
could wrap around her torso. Thaddeus slipped one arm around Lexi’s shoulders
and pulled her against him, his other hand stroking her hair. Breanna and the
other girls came around Thaddeus and Lexi and made it a group hug as the
midwife pressed her back against the wall, her hands touching the tip of her
mask as she held back tears of her own.
“I have to go tell his Majesty,” She whispered, her eyes
downcast. Lexi unexpectedly shot up from the floor, forcing herself to calm
down as she scooped the swaddled baby into her arms, being extra careful to
support the baby’s head.
“No, I’ll do it. It’ll be better coming from somebody he
knows,” Lexi explained as she bent down and used her elbow to open the door.
Ben instantly stood up from the bench and pounced on Lexi.
“What happened? Is she okay?”
Lexi bit back a sob as she handed Ben his newborn daughter.
“You have a daughter. Congratulations.” She whispered,
barley looking Ben in the eyes. Ben looked puzzled, but he smiled, momentarily
distracted.
“That’s amazing! How’s Mal? Is she alri-?” he stopped as he
caught the look on Lexi’s face. “What is it? What happened?” Ben’s voice was
now flooded with anxiety. Lexi inhaled a sharp breath as she tried to look into
Ben’s eyes, but not doing a very good job of it.
“Ben, I’m so sorry, Mal didn’t make it!” Lexi broke into sobs
as Ben’s face reflected all of the emotions he felt. Sadness. A look like his
worst fears had come true. A look that his world came crashing down before him.
“I’m so sorry! We tried everything to save her, but we couldn’t save her!”
All of the fangirls let their tears show now that Ben knew
and huddled themselves together onto a spot on the floor. Thaddeus came over to
Lexi and took her into his arms, letting her cry into his chest as he smoothed
his fingers against her head and whispered that everything would be okay. Evie,
who had been sitting with Doug, took off in the other direction, screaming and
crying as Doug chased after her. Jay slid down on the bench, tears already
streaming from his eyes and Hades buried his face in his hands, muttering
something about how he just got her back and that he couldn’t lose her again.
Belle felt her eyes sting, but her and Beast pulled it together as they came
down to the floor and embraced Ben gently. Ben eventually sighed as he stood up
and looked at Lexi.
“I know, Lexi. I know it wasn’t your guy’s fault.” He turned
to the midwife. “May I say goodbye to her?” the midwife nodded, looking
sympathetically at Ben.
“Yes, of course, your majesty,” she whispered. Ben passed
the baby girl to Beast so he could go into the hospital room and no one
followed so Mal and Ben could alone, one last time. When Ben walked in, he saw
Mal, lying in the hospital bed, not moving and looking paler than she was in
life and the sight unnerved Ben to his core. He bent down to the hospital bed
and began to cry.
“Thank you,” he whispered through his muffled sobs. “For
bringing our children into the world. Thank you, for kissing me at cotilion.
And, did I mention, that I’m in love with you?” and then he kissed her. The
last time he would ever kiss her. Everything was just quiet for a moment, no
one daring to utter a syllable. Only, what was that funny noise? It was the
heart monitor. It had started up again. Then they heard Mal start breathing. Only
poor Ben was so distraught that he didn’t even notice.
“Ben?” Mal said. Ben turned, hardly daring to believe it.
“Mal?” he said with wide eyes. Mal smirked, but softly and
gently.
“Did I mention that I love you too?”
Ben gave a relieved and surprised grin as two more tears
slipped down his face.
“Mal!” he exclaimed as he excitedly stood up and embraced
Mal and kissed her again. “We’re parents, Mal! We have kids!” Ben told Mal. Mal
looked confused.
“Kids? Plural?” she asked. Lexi spoke up from the doorway
but didn’t move from Thaddeus’s secure arms.
“Um, there was another baby. A baby girl. It was a spell
that got the baby in and we don’t know how or when, but we got the baby out,”
she explained, sounding a little calmer, but not too steady quite yet. Evie
came around to the door, still sobbing and Doug had his arms around her from
behind. But they suddenly looked up, shocked to see Mal sitting up in bed,
being very much alive.
“Mal!” Evie exclaimed. “They told us you were dead!”
Breanna smirked.
“Well, you know. True love’s kiss? Works every time?” (Uma,
Descendants 3.) Evie nodded like she understood.
“Oh, well that makes sense. Wait, I missed it?!” Everyone
started laughing then and for a while, they couldn’t stop because they were all
not emotionally okay.
Lexi and Thaddeus were sitting outside of the hospital room
on a bench. “Gosh, tonight was insane,” Lexi whispered, tugging on the ends of
her blonde curls. Thaddeus nodded fervently, then pushed his glasses up the
bridge of his nose.
“I whole-heartedly agree,” he said, starting to laugh. Lexi
winced and rubbed her temples. “Are you okay?” Thaddeus asked.
“Yes, I just have a bit of a headache,” she explained,
gently brushing off Thaddeus’s concern. Thaddeus chuckled, but softer this
time.
“Well, that’s what happens when you cry into my shirt all
night,” he teased.
“Hey! You let me cry into your shirt all night,” Lexi
teased back as she shoved Thaddeus gently in the shoulder. “I wonder what sort
of homecoming we missed,” Lexi said seriously. Thaddeus gave her a softly
romantic look as he pulled out his phone from his pocket.
“Who says we have to miss it?” he said softly as Perfect by
Ed Sheeran started to play. Lexi smiled. That was one of her most favorite
songs. Thaddeus stood up and offered his arm to her.
“May I have this dance, fangirl?” he asked softly. Lexi
nodded as she took his hand and Thaddeus pulled her into his arms as she leaned
her head against Thaddeus’s chest. The fangirls, meanwhile, had heard the music
from the hallway and came to investigate. They saw Lexi and Thaddeus dancing!
They all slowly backed away from the door, but then all crowded around it again
because they couldn’t miss this! After the song ended, however, they truly gave
them their privacy. Thaddeus and Lexi sat back down on the bench, just looking into
each other’s eyes as Thaddeus realized that one side of Lexi’s bangs had fallen
in her face again and he tucked it behind her ear, his hand still resting on
her face. “I love you, fangirl,” he whispered, right before he kissed her. Lexi
felt giddy and also felt all of her muscles go limp as her lips touched his. Then,
a memory she did not remember having surfaced bright and clear in her mind.
After a little bit, Thaddeus pulled away, his cheeks looking rosy. Only all he
could do was stare at Lexi’s look like she had a realization of some kind.
Thaddeus grumbled softly, hoping Lexi couldn’t hear him. How could he be so
stupid? “Oh, I’m sorry. I should have asked,” he whispered apologetically,
losing all confidence in himself. Lexi shook her head.
“No, no, that’s not it,” she said, slightly awkwardly “It’s
just… that’s how you broke the spell, wasn’t it?” Lexi wondered softly, smiling
at Thaddeus. Thaddeus gave her a shy smile back.
“Did that jog a memory?” he asked back, meaning the kiss.
Lexi nodded as she beamed at Thaddeus.
“Thaddeus,” she said as she took his hands in both of hers.
“You are my true love.” Then she pulled Thaddeus toward her and her lips
instantly found his. Thaddeus’s eyes grew wide, but after only a moment, he
sunk into the kiss. After Lexi pulled back, her forehead found Thaddeus’s
forehead. Only Lexi couldn’t suppress a grin like it was the best day of her
life and Thaddeus smiled to see her happy, with him, of all people.
“So, does this mean I get to court you?” Thaddeus whispered
smoothly. Lexi blushed.
“Of course, that’s what this means. You are my true love,
aren’t you?”
“Always, fangirl.
Always.”
