Chapter 16

Lexi and Thaddeus eventually headed back into the hospital room to tell everyone the good news. They held hands, as if to give a hint.

“Hey guys! We have some news,” Lexi said excitedly.

“What is it?” Evie wondered. Thaddeus and Lexi smiled at each other.

“We’re boyfriend and girlfriend now,” Thaddeus said, grinning widely as though all of his dreams had just come true, which, I guess they did.

“Finally!!” everyone and I mean EVERYONE in the room exclaimed. Lexi looked around confusedly as Evie turned to Doug, smiling ironically.

“Alright, pay up, you,” she said. Doug sighed and grabbed his wallet from out of his pocket.

“Wait, what? Did you all know?” Lexi asked.

“Oh, we knew, darling. We knew,” Evie said, walking to them. “I have been sensing the chemistry between you two for so long!”

Lexi’s cheeks colored.

“How long?” she asked, sounding uncomfortable as Thaddeus squeezed her hand.

“Every time you guys were together,” Evie replied calmly as Lexi’s cheeks deepened to cherry red and Thaddeus kissed her forehead, but he was blushing too. The fangirls all came over and threw themselves at Lexi and Thaddeus and squealed very loudly.

“We are so glad you guys are thing!” Breanna told them, giving Lexi an extra hug and bumping fists with Thaddeus.

“Yeah, we’re really happy for you guys,” said Ben. He was sitting on the hospital bed with Mal, one arm supporting his little baby princess, his other arm around his tired wife, whose head was on Ben’s shoulder and her eyes were drooping a little bit. After a few minutes, the fangirls and their fanboy decided they should go home. They congratulated Mal and Ben and wished them good luck with the new babies. When the fangirls and Thaddeus got back to the school, they found the dance was still going. They smiled at each other before the rest of the fangirls went to find their dates and they all danced the night away.

Much too soon, the dance ended and everyone had to go home. Lexi and Thaddeus bid goodbye to the other girls and got into Thaddeus’s aunt’s Nissan Centra. Lexi and Thaddeus held hands and talked the whole way home and while Thaddeus wasn’t trying to slow the drive down, he definitely wasn’t trying to speed it up, either. Once they got to Lexi’s house, Thaddeus came around to her side of the car and opened up her door and took her hand as she got out of the car. Stopping just shy of the ring of light cast by the porch light, Thaddeus gathered Lexi into his arms and they embraced.

“I don’t want this moment to end,” Thaddeus murmured against Lexi’s strawberry blonde curls. “I’m afraid if I close my eyes and sleep, I’ll wake up to find that this has all been a dream,”

“I know what you mean,” Lexi sighed, leaning her head against Thaddeus’s chest. Eventually, Thaddeus heaved a dramatic sigh which made Lexi giggle. Thaddeus kissed her once, very softly before taking her hand and walking her the rest of the way to the door.

“Sweet dreams, fangirl,” Thaddeus whispered just before he kissed her hand. “I love you,”

Lexi smiled and blushed.

“I love you, too,” she replied, just as sweetly as she opened her front door and blew Thaddeus a kiss. After Lexi came inside her house, Thaddeus got back in his car and drove away, letting out a cheer.

Lexi practically floated to the kitchen where her mom, Conner, and James were at the table, pretending to play a card game, but really just waiting for Lexi to get home. “Hey!” Lexi’s mom greeted. “How did it go?” Then she saw Lexi’s smile and rosy cheeks. “Oh, I know that look! Tell me everything!”

“Oh,” Lexi said as she got a glass of water and sat down at the table. “I actually got captured like ten minutes into the dance,”

Conner, James, and their mom all dropped their cards.

“Woah! Tell us what happened right now!” Conner said. So, Lexi got into the story of how Adam had spelled her, captured her and Mal and took her to Auradon and how the fangirls, Thaddeus, Evie, Jay, and Ben came and rescued them. Then she explained how they had to break the spell with true love’s kiss and who had done it (their jaws all dropped at the part of the story,) and finally explained about Mal. Baby boy, baby girl, death, and magical reawakening.

“And THEN…” Lexi said and got into the story of how her and Thaddeus kissed and how they were boyfriend and girlfriend.

“Wait, Thaddeus KISSED you? Twice?” James asked, still sounding surprised.

"That you know of," Lexi muttered, grinning mischievously as she took a swig of her water.

“Dude, that’s what you’re responding to?” Conner said, swatting James on the shoulder. James shrugged.

“What? Mal’s okay, right?” Lexi nodded. “Then yes, that’s what I’m responding to,”

Lexi giggled.

“All I can say is this was the best night of my life!” she squealed. James and Conner exchanged looks then went upstairs without a word.
