Chapter 16, Explanations

After a week-long honeymoon, Lexi and Thaddeus drove to their new home and both got jobs so they could pay rent on their new apartment. And they were very happy, when they were with each other, not when they were at work, because some jobs just suck. But they did turn Thaddeus fear and trauma into a family tradition. Every time there was lightning storm, they would build a fort and watch a movie in the living room. But, when they had been married for about two weeks, they received a phone call from Mal and Ben. “Hey guys!” Ben said to them. Lexi and Thaddeus waved back.

“Hi!” Lexi replied.

“How’s married life going?” Mal asked. Thaddeus smiled.

“It’s good. But adulting is hard,” Thaddeus admitted. Mal and Ben nodded and laughed.

“Yeah, that’s usually how that goes. Listen, we captured Adam and interrogated him and we got him to talk. We want you and the other girls to come to Auradon on Saturday if you’re not busy,” Ben explained. Lexi and Thaddeus exchanged glances before answering. 

“I don’t have work on Saturday. Do you, Lexi?” Thaddeus asked her. Lexi shook her head.

“Nope,” she said. Ben and Mal nodded again.

“Good! Will we see you?” Mal asked. Lexi and Thaddeus both nodded.

“Definitely!” Lexi said. So, they made sure that the other girls weren’t busy on Saturday and headed to Auradon. They all met up at Mal and Ben’s castle in the living room where they were served some sugar cookies that looked like Christmas trees.

“Already?” Kaylee asked, examining the cookie. Ben nodded.

“Yeah. What’s a little Christmas in March?” he asked. The rest of the girls and Thaddeus smiled.

“I think it’s awesome,” Thaddeus said happily. “So, what did you find out?”. Mal nodded.

“Well, Adam and Karen were who set the tree on fire, the ones who kidnapped Mallory, the ones who framed Mad Maddy, the ones who disguised themselves as Mad Maddy, well, that was just Karen, and the ones who almost hit Lexi after her and Thaddeus had a fight and that poisoned hot chocolate was actually meant for Thaddeus but Adam doesn’t know how to be a gentleman and thought that Thaddeus would take the first mug.” Mal explained. They all just looked at each other in shock.

“I would have rather it have been me,” Thaddeus muttered as he took Lexi’s hand. “That is a LOT to take in. They can’t escape, can they?” He added. Ben shrugged.

“We’re trying to make sure there is absolutely no way for them to escape,” He explained with a meaningful look at Thaddeus. “You don’t need to worry,”. Lexi gave Thaddeus a small smile before kissing him on the cheek.

“It’s okay, Thaddeus. I’ll be fine,” she whispered. “I have you to protect me.”. Thaddeus smiled at her and slipped his arm around her shoulders. Then, Lexi noticed something. “Breanna, what’s that?” She asked urgently. Breanna shifted in her seat as she hid her left hand beneath her right. Lexi got up and moved Breanna’s right hand. She gasped. She saw a silver ring with a circular red gem. “Has Henry popped the question?! Why didn’t you tell us?” she squealed. Breanna chuckled awkwardly.
“He only just proposed last night!” she chuckled. Bridgett and Kaylee came over and looked at the ring.

“It is gorgeous!” Bridgett exclaimed. Kaylee nodded in agreement.

“You knew about this, didn’t you?” she asked Gabrielle. Gabrielle nodded and blushed.

“Yes,” she said softly. “I wasn’t at liberty to say.”. Thaddeus came over and shook Breanna’s hand.

“Congratulations, Breanna,” he said, winking. Breanna giggled.

“Thanks,” she said. Thaddeus nodded and smiled.

“Do you guys have a date picked out?” Mal asked. Breanna shrugged her shoulders.

“We were thinking two months from now,” she explained.

“Ooh, May wedding,” Lexi said, nodding in approval.

“Yeah, May fourth,” Breanna explained. Thaddeus had a vague memory of “May the fourth be with you” come to mind. So, now there was going to be another married fangirl in the group and they had a wedding to plan.

  The “Love is an Open Door” scene ☹😊 I jump at the sound of the doorbell. I’ve been sitting on pins and needles for thirty minutes after I got ready, waiting for Adam to come and pick me up for the homecoming dance.
