Chapter 10, Karen’s lament
As Lexi worked through the panic and
the confusion and the shock, Karen giggled and Adam chuckled darkly. “Well,
well, well. Look who finally woke up,” Karen said snootily. Lexi rolled her
eyes.
“Karen, what in the actual heck are
you doing?” Lexi asked, sounding exasperated.
“Oh, don’t waltz in here with your
perfect life and then pretend not to know what’s going on!” Karen complained
angerly, rolling her eyes. Lexi sighed.
“First, I didn’t waltz in here, you
captured me! Second, I have no clue what you’re talking about!” Lexi grumbled.
“Oh, please! Captain of the cheer
team, perfect grades, perfect friends, even more perfect boyfriend, perfect
life!” Karen ranted before taking a long, shuddering breath. “Meanwhile I was
alone and friendless and without the love life that you stole from me!” Adam
came and put his arm around. Karen’s shoulders. Lexi’s eyes widened.
“Wow. Okay, Karen, that was like four
years ago, let it go,” Lexi sighed, shaking her head.
“Did you let it go when I kept glaring
at you?” she said with her old evil little glare.
“I tried to, but you kept doing it.
And I tried to be friends with you! I tried to be kind to you but you refused
because of a stupid grudge! So, really, you have no one else to blame but
yourself,” Karen glared harder than she had ever glared before, like she had
realized that Lexi was right.
“Oh, I guess you’re right. Too bad I
won’t except that!” and Adam slammed a big red button in the wall and the floor
beneath Lexi disappeared! She let out a high-pitched scream she went shooting
down a pitch-dark tube. Or at least it was dark until it filled with images.
Terrifyingly real images, full of Lexi’s worst insecurities and fears. Fear of
everybody hating her. Fear of losing Thaddeus. Fear of death. Fear of her being
all alone. Even if she shut her eyes, the images would still be ingrained in
her mind. And suddenly she was falling, down, down, down until she plunged into
a cold, watery substance and suddenly she could see she was in a lake. She
tried to swim for it until she remembered she was tied up from chest to toe and
then she tried to make her feet touch the ground but the ground was too far
beneath her! All she could do was scream so loudly and desperately for someone
to come and help her! But no one came. Only as she started to sink did she see
a large group of people gathered on dirt ground that surrounded the lake.
Thaddeus, the fangirls, the
Descendants pack, and Lexi’s parents were hard at work trying to figure out
where Karen and Adam had taken Lexi. Breanna and the girls were out trying to
trace their foot prints, and Thaddeus and the Descendants pack were trying to
trace their cellphones. But Karen had done something so they couldn’t be
tracked. (Karen had obviously done it. Adam was as dumb as a box of rocks.)
Just then, Breanna and the girls burst through the front door. “We tracked
their foot prints to a field but the foot prints stop once the field begins!”
Breanna exclaimed.
“We think it’s a portal!” Gabrielle
told them. Kaylee and Bridgett nodded in agreement. Thaddeus smiled because
they were one step closer to figuring it out.
“Are there other realms?” Lexi’s mom
asked.
“Yes,” Ben said.
“You mean I could have gone to
Hogwarts this whole time?” Lexi’s mom asked.
“I mean I don’t know what that is, but
probably, if you thought it was fiction,” Mal explained. Lexi’s mom’s eyes
widened.
“Do you think they took her to
Auradon?” Thaddeus asked, changing the subject and letting just a tiny bit of
his panic show. He had been holding it in for the past hour.
“I mean she might have taken her to a
different realm,” Kaylee said, breaking into a sweat just thinking about it.
“No, Karen and Adam wouldn’t know about
all of that. At least I don’t think they would,” Bridgett said timidly. Jay and
Evie looked at each other.
“We can track the foot prints to where
they are,” Evie said.
“We’ll help you,” Jay added. They all
went out to track the foot prints and they taught Thaddeus and the fangirls how
to track foot prints to the location. It was a pretty complicated spell they
had to use but they got it.
“They are in Auradon!” Thaddeus
cried and gathered all those with magic to create a portal to get there. As
soon as they got there, they were dropped off in a forest. They started to
search where the foot prints were now, when they heard someone screaming so
loudly, they were sure half of Auradon could her hear her. Her. “That’s
Lexi!” Thaddeus exclaimed and started dashing to where they heard her voice. As
soon as they caught up, the thing they saw was horrifying and chilling to the
bone. They saw Lexi’s head go down into the lake as she started to drown.
