Chapter 18, Explanations

Lexi was sitting at the table on that Saturday morning, still feeling last night’s giddiness as she ate her breakfast. A bowl of cottage cheese and peaches. Yummy! As she came back to her room and picked up her phone to text her friends good morning like she did every day, she found a text from the group chat they had with the VKs and Ben. It was from Ben

“Good morning, everybody! We need to call you all this afternoon to discuss some things we found out this morning. How does 1:00 sound?” It read. Just as Lexi was typing a reply, Breanna sent a text.

“Okay! 1:00 sounds good to me!” 

 Lexi typed her reply next.

“Sounds good to me too!” 

Everyone else said the same, so the fangirls and Thaddeus met up at Breanna’s and Gabrielle’s house around 12:30. They played some games of Taco, Cat, Goat, Cheese, Pizza until they heard Lexi’s phone start singing "If Only" this time because Mal was calling. Lexi picked up her phone and answered the call. 

“Hey!” Lexi said cheerfully. Mal was sitting up in the hospital bed and holding baby Braydon. Mal smiled and said hello. “Are you still in the hospital?” Lexi asked. Mal nodded. 

“Yes, but they said I could go home tomorrow,” she told them.

“So, what was the important news?” Thaddeus asked. Ben came over and started to explain the situation with Mad Maddy. Everybody was wide-eyed and dead silent at the end of the story.

“So, it was her fault?” Kaylee asked. Mal and Ben nodded in unison. Lexi scoffed hotly.

“That’s just ridiculous!” Lexi said, but then she realized what she just said. “I just punned without realizing it,” she said to herself. Ben started laughing a little, then returned to a serious disposition. 

“They said that she said someone from dimension was helping her without being spelled,” Ben explained. Bridgett cocked her head to one side. 

“Did she say a name?” she asked. Mal nodded.

“Yeah, they said his name was Adam Zeller,” Mal explained. They all gasped in unison.

“What? Do you know him?” Mal asked. Lexi was still trying to get over the shock.

“That’s name of my ex-boyfriend,” Lexi explained, shuddering how he broke up with her a few weeks ago and how he had been disappearing for a while. “I’m going to go have a mental break down,” Lexi said, shuddering a little more. Thaddeus’s arm encircled Lexi’s shoulders.

“So, where is Mad Maddy now? And what are we going to do with Adam?” Gabrielle asked.

“Maddy is on The Isle of the Doomed behind a barrier that keeps out all magic and she only gets scraps from Auradon to eat. I think we should lock up Adam for at least a few months,” Ben explained. All the fangirls and Thaddeus’s eyes widened.  

"Ooh, the old 'Isle of the Lost' treatment," Breanna said, nodding in approval. They all nodded. 

"Where are you going lock Adam up?" Kaylee asked.

"Where we've been locking everyone else up for the past year," Mal replied.

"Ah, good," Lexi sighed. "I'm still not happy with him."

After some small talk, they said goodbye and hung up. After a few hours of hanging out and playing board games, they said goodbye to each other and left. Thaddeus had offered to give Lexi a ride home and she had accepted of course. As they started heading out of Breanna’s neighborhood, Lexi had a question for Thaddeus.

“So, when did you start having a crush on me back in the old days?” she asked. Thaddeus shrugged.

 “Somewhere around the first week of school. I had seen you around in the hallway and had seen the way you acted and how you looked because let's face it, you're gorgeous!" Lexi giggled and blushed. 

"And you stood up for me in the hallway when I was being bullied and that’s when I really started to have a crush on you. And then I actually met you a couple weeks later and I got nervous. Especially when I found that I was friends with your brothers," Thaddeus explained. Lexi nodded.

“Did I hurt your feelings when I basically friend-zoned you?” she asked. Thaddeus shrugged again.

“A little. But then your brothers reminded me that I was too young to be in a relationship like that,”

Lexi nodded again. “I see,” she replied, laughing a little.

“Then I got used to being just your friend and I liked it. But, I've got to say, I like this better,” he chuckled. Lexi smiled and her cheeks turned pink.

“I like this better too,” she whispered, smiling still. Once they pulled up to Lexi’s house, Thaddeus put his foot on the brake. Lexi unbuckled and then Thaddeus got out first. He came around to her side and opened her door. Lexi smiled at him and took both his hands in hers.

“You are SO much better than Adam,” she said and Thaddeus blushed furiously. Then he kissed her forehead and she started up the front path to her house.

“I love you!” Thaddeus shouted after her, glad he could say that out loud to her now.

“I love you too!” she shouted to him as she turned the door knob and went inside. But as she stepped inside, Conner and James stepped outside and started shooting Thaddeus with Nerf guns. Thaddeus started screaming. They were shooting with the hard-tipped darts. 

“Aah! No, no! Show mercy! Show mercy!” he screamed as he ran to the car. Then he ran to his side of the car, got inside and drove off really, really fast.
