Chapter 16, Operation Laddeus: Completed

 After Thaddeus and Lexi’s first kiss, they walked back into the hospital room to give the happy news. They walked in holding hands as if to give a hint. 

“Hey guys! We have some news!” Lexi exclaimed. Everyone looked at them. 

“What’s the news?” Evie asked. Lexi and Thaddeus smiled at each other.

“We are boyfriend and girlfriend now!” Thaddeus said excitedly. Everybody jumped up, except for Mal and Ben, who were holding the babies. 

“Finally!!” everybody said unison. I mean everybody! Evie smiled at Doug.

“Alright pay up you,” she said, smiling. Doug groaned as he reached into his pocket for his wallet. 

“Um, what do you mean ‘Finally’?” Lexi asked. Evie walked over to Lexi and Thaddeus.

“I have been sensing the Chemistry between you two for years!” she exclaimed.

“Years?” Lexi asked. “Like, how many of them?”

“The past six of them” Evie said. Lexi’s eyes widened and she blushed furiously. Thaddeus put his arm around her and he kissed her forehead, but he was blushing too. 

“Oh, finally!” Breanna exclaimed softly and she passed out. 

“Oh, my gosh!” Kaylee exclaimed and ran over to Lexi. Lexi ran over to her as well. In fact, all the fangirls ran to Breanna. Bridgett grabbed a wash cloth and wet it under the faucet. Bridgett wiped Breanna’s forehead. 

“Breanna?” Gabrielle asked. Breanna started stirring. She let out a happy little moan. 

“Oh, I just had the most beautiful dream. I had a dream where Thaddeus and Lexi were boyfriend and girlfriend,” she sighed wistfully. Lexi and Thaddeus exchanged glances and started laughing.

“Breanna, that wasn’t a dream. That was reality,” Lexi explained. Breanna sat up and smiled.

“Oh, thank heaven!” she exclaimed. Lexi started laughing again.

“What makes you say that?” she giggled.

“Well, Thaddeus has been wanting to ask you to homecoming since the beginning of the school year and it failed, but now, you guys are dating! I’m so happy right now!” she exclaimed. They all started laughing again. 

“Well, all I know, Karen is really going to hate my guts now,” Lexi said, groaning inwardly.

“She already hates your guts,” Gabrielle replied. Lexi nodded and smiled.

“But she’s going hate them even more now because Thaddeus and I are dating,” Lexi explained.

“So?” Gabrielle asked, clearly not understanding the gravity of the situation.

“She has a crush on Thaddeus, Gabby,” Breanna explained, rolling her eyes. Gabrielle gasped.

“Wait, what?!” she exclaimed, clapping her hands to her face. They all nodded.

“This should interesting,” Gabrielle said, shrugging. They all nodded again and laughed.

“I’m really happy for you guys,” Ben smiled from the hospital bed. snuggling Michelle in one arm, the other arm surrounding his tired wife.

“Thanks!” Lexi said brightly, grinning and leaning into Thaddeus. After a few more minutes, the fangirls and Thaddeus decided that they should go. They gave everybody a hug and wished Mal and Ben luck with the new babies.

They came back to the school and found that the dance was still going. 

“It’s still going?” Bridgett asked, surprised.

“I guess so” Thaddeus shrugged, and they all walked back into the gym. Breanna, Kaylee and Bridgett went to find their dates and then the fangirls and their dates danced the night away.

 

Much too soon, the dance ended and they began to make their way home. After waving goodbye to the other fangirls, Lexi and Thaddeus got in his uncles Nissan. While Thaddeus wasn't purposely trying to make the drive last longer, he certainly wasn't trying to speed it up either. They held hands and talked the entire way and when they got to Lexi’s house, he came around the car and opened Lexi's door. Stopping just shy of the ring of light cast by the porch light, Thaddeus gathered Lexi into a warm hug. 

"I don't want this moment to end. I'm afraid if I close my eyes and sleep, I'll wake up to find this has all been a dream," he murmured, against her strawberry blonde curls.

"I know what you mean," Lexi sighed, snuggling into his chest. Finally, Thaddeus heaved a dramatic sigh which made Lexi giggle softly. He kissed her once, softly, before releasing her and walking her the rest of the way to the door. 

"Sweet dreams, Fangirl," he whispered, kissing her hand. He waited until Lexi walked into her house and then got back in his car and drove away. Lexi practically floated over to the kitchen and sat down at the table. Lexi's mom and brothers were sitting there, already, pretending to play a card game, but really waiting up for Lexi.

“So, how was it?” her mom asked. Then her mom noticed Lexi’s smile and rosy cheeks. "I know that look!” she exclaimed, "tell me everything!" 

Lexi smiled. “Oh, well actually Mal went into labor in the middle of the dance,” Lexi mentioned, nonchalantly.  They all dropped their cards and gathered around so that they could hear the story. Lexi called her sisters so she wouldn't have to tell the story twice. Once she was done telling them about Mal’s labor, baby boy, baby girl, death, and magical reawakening, they were all shocked into silence. 

"And THEN..." Lexi went into the story about her and Thaddeus and how they were boyfriend and girlfriend now. 

“Wait, so he kissed you?” Conner asked.

"THAT'S what you are responding too?" James said, swatting Conner on the shoulder.

"What? Mal's ok, right?" Conner asked. Lexi nodded. "Then, yes, that's what I'm responding to." 

“Yep! It was the best night of my life!” Lexi squealed, standing up to do a little twirl right there in the kitchen.

“I’m calling him,” Conner said, getting out his phone. Lexi’s eyes widened.

“What? Hey! You were the one who tried to hook us up when I was nine!” Lexi exclaimed.

“We were just trying to get you guys to be friends! Plus, I didn’t know that things would get this real this fast!” Conner exclaimed. Lexi smiled at him teasingly.

“Why, Grumpy, you do care,” (Snow White, Snow White and the seven dwarfs) she said, her voice getting higher. James rolled his eyes at her. 

“Shut up, Lexi!” he exclaimed. Lexi scoffed and rolled her eyes.

“So, are you madly in love with him?” Josie asked. Lexi laughed.

“Oh, no, just that he’s really romantic and sweet and he loves me. Of course, I’m in love with him!” Lexi said excitedly. Josie and Cristy started laughing.

“Hey, I would be too!” Cristy exclaimed. They all started laughing then. Meanwhile, the boys dialed Thaddeus’s phone number from upstairs and Thaddeus was about to get an earful.
