Chapter 11 of Fangirls, book two!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D:D
Chapter 11, The real prince
Mal was in the delivery room,
delivering twins. It was weird. All the ultra-sounds proved there was only one
baby, so it was strange. And then she died, delivering the second baby.
Mal awoke with a start. She didn’t know where she was or what just happened, or even if she was still alive, when she felt Ben’s hand on her own. “Are you alright?” Ben asked her. Mal didn’t answer. At least not immediately.
“Where are we?” she asked in a panic. Ben
gave her a sympathetic smile.
“It’s okay,” he said in a soothing manor. “We’re at home. Mad Maddy is defeated, but she burned your arm. You were a dragon when she got your arm and you fell unconscious, you were in the hospital overnight but, we’re home now.” he explained. Mal looked around and saw that she was in her own bed, not in a hospital.
“Okay,” she said, sighing with
relief.
“Did you have another bad dream?” Ben
inquired. Mal nodded.
“Yes. It was weird, though. We had twins and then I died when I was delivering the second baby,” Mal explained. Ben shook his head.
“That’s crazy. You’ll be okay, though.” he said comfortingly.
A couple hours later, Ben came back
into their bedroom, smiling. “You have visitors,” Ben told her.
Mal smiled as well. “Let me guess,” she
said. Ben laughed.
“You guessed right,” he said as he opened the door and Evie, Jay, the fangirls and Thaddeus all walked in. Jay was carrying a bouquet of black dahlias, some of Mal’s favorite flowers.
“Hey how are you feeling?” Evie asked. Mal smiled a little.
“I feel okay. Lexi, what did you do to yourself?” she asked in concern. For Lexi was walking on crutches.
“Oh, I just broke my ankle. I’m okay, though.” she said cheerfully, as if she breaking her ankle was a fun little game she liked to play all of the time.
“Walking on
these is actually kind of fun” she said, motioning to her crutches.
“How did you break your ankle?” Mal
asked. Lexi chuckled mildly.
“Oh, when Mad Maddy’s wharf rats were
chasing us, I tripped over an old tree branch and twisted my ankle,” Lexi explained.
“Oh, jeez, that’s fun,” Mal said sarcastically.
“So, what happened to you?” Kaylee
asked. Mal shrugged.
“Just a third degree burn on my right
arm. I’m okay,” she said with the same calmness that Lexi had when she explained
her injury. “That sounds fun too,” Bridgett said sarcastically but, weirdly brightly. Mal nodded.
“Yeah, it’s real picnic.” she sighed. Later in
the week, they released Yen Sid and Hadie and Audrey and took the spells off them. They all broke into apologies when the spells were broken and claimed
they had no idea what they were doing, except Yen Sid, who wasn’t spelled.
A couple months later, homecoming was a few weeks away. Lexi had her cast off of course. She was all healed. And Mal was healed too and eight months pregnant. It was a very sunny Friday in the middle of April. The fangirls and Thaddeus were at school of course and it was lunch period. All the fangirls were wearing bright colors because of the happy day. Lexi, was in lavender blouse and skinny jeans and tall brown boots. Her strawberry blonde shoulder length hair was tucked behind her ears with a mint green headband. Only her curtain bangs were in front of the headband even though they constantly fell in her face, but she just pushed them behind her ears again. Breanna wore a red T-shirt, jeans and sneakers, her light brown hair in a low ponytail. Kaylee wore a forest green shirt and shorts with brown sandals, her long, light caramel hair in high ponytail. Bridgett wore a yellow blouse and lacy shorts with light brown sandals, her dirty blonde curly hair was down with a pink headband. Gabrielle was in a light pink shirt, light colored jeans and ballet flats, her dark blonde hair in a sassy low side ponytail. Thaddeus was in dark jeans and a T-shirt that he made that read “I once tried to destroy a kingdom. What’s going on with you today?” and red high-top converse, his dark brown hair in its usual style, which was wavy. They were all sitting at the lunch table, eating lunch and chatting, when something caught Lexi’s eye: Adam was walking down the hallway with another girl, holding her hand and laughing. “Uh, guys I’ll be right back,” Lexi said, getting up and walking down the hallway to where Adam was. She tapped him on the shoulder. “Um, Adam, what are you doing?” she inquired. Adam started laughing and he slapped his forehead.
“Oh, right! You’re the person I forgot to tell! I’m breaking up
with you,” he explained. Lexi’s eyes widened.
“Um, what? I’m sorry, you asked me,
sir!” she said in confusion. Adam beamed at her.
“Yes, but the thing is, I met this other girl a few months ago. And she’s super nice, and cute, and funny, and you know, not an annoying fangirl,” A memory came flashing back to Lexi’s mind as he said that. She was twelve years old and she was at family school in Illinoi. She was trying to make new friends after Lilly left and talking to a boy. Eventually, he shoved her to the floor and said in annoyance, as if Lexi were an an irritating little bug,
“Go away, you annoying fangirl! No one wants you here!” and then he walked off with his own friend. Since then, she was afraid to be herself until they left Illinoi. And she was afraid to be herself right then.
“Anyway, thanks! I knew you’d understand!” Adam said as if she did understand, then he walked
off. Lexi just stood there for a moment.
“But I thought you liked me. . .” she
muttered. But then she made up her mind she wouldn’t cry, she would just walk
back into the gym as if nothing happened. She didn’t want to talk about it. But
before she walked more than two steps, she crumbled, sunk to the floor and
promptly began to sob.
As Adam and Ella (That was the name of the girl) walked away, she thought about what Adam had said to that poor sophomore girl. And she was enraged to know that he had been cheating on her. She didn’t even know he was doing it! “Um, you told me that you broke up with her already,” she said angerly, dropping his hand.. Adam smiled sheepishly.
“Well, I have now,” he
said, his voice cracking.
“You were cheating her?!” she
exclaimed to him.
“Um, well- was all he got out before she
reached into her backpack and grabbed her copy of “George Washington’s rules of
civility” which they had been studying in History class and handed to Adam.
“Read this, until it clicks in your
tiny mind and then we’ll talk!” she said and she slapped him in the face so
hard it left a mark, and then she stormed off.
Meanwhile, Thaddeus had seen the whole
thing with Adam and Lexi and this other girl. And now, Lexi was sitting up on
the floor of the hallway, her face in her knees, and she was shaking. Without a
word to anyone, he started walk toward her and no one stopped him. Kaylee and
Bridgett got up to go comfort her too, but Breanna stopped them. “No, no! Leave
him alone, he’s got this! He has been wanting this chance since last July! She
exclaimed.
“Oh, right.” Kaylee and Bridgett said in unison as they sat back down. Thaddeus walked to where Lexi was sitting and realized she was crying really, really hard. Thaddeus looked down at her, a sympathetic look in his eyes.
“Lexi, what’s wrong?” he asked softly. Lexi looked up, her face all tear stained and the knees of her jeans were soaked. As soon as she saw who it was, she franticly started wiping away her tears.
“Oh, I’m fine. Adam just dumped me and he’s been cheating on me and keeping secrets from me and lying to me. I mean obviously he’s never seen Descendants 2 or he would’ve learned not to do that, it’s strange I haven’t converted him yet,” she said all of that very fast and she was trying to hold back tears. Thaddeus shook his head.
“Lexi, you don’t have to conceal your feelings from me. You can cry if you want too,” he said gently. Lexi was about object, when she gave up and buried her face her knees again. Thaddeus put his hand on her shoulder and squeezed it reassuringly. “It’ll be alright. I’m right here with you. You can talk if you want,” he said in a soft tone. Lexi was shaking so hard Thaddeus wondered if there was an earthquake and If Mad Maddy was plaguing America. It was a while before she looked up again.
“Have you ever had someone that you really like and then they
totally ditch you for someone else?” she asked, tears still streaming down her
face. Thaddeus’s eyes widened.
“Um, yeah, I guess I have. But I
didn’t exactly have it as bad as you,” Lexi nodded.
“I feel really stupid that I chose
someone so stupid!” Thaddeus shook his head.
No, you weren’t stupid. Everyone has been
dumped by Adam. Plus, you were just blinded by his stupidly bright smile,” he
said to Lexi. Lexi actually smiled even though she was still kind of crying.
“His smile is stupidly bright! He’s such a Chad!” she cried. Thaddeus slapped his forehead which reminded Lexi of Adam and what he said to her.
“That’s who he reminds me of! That has been
driving me crazy all week!” he exclaimed, trying to make her laugh. Then he
noticed the look on Lexi’s face.
“Is there something else? What’s
wrong?” he asked her.
“He called me an annoying fangirl!” she said and she burst into tears and buried her face in her knees again. Thaddeus’s face turned red with fury.
“He didn’t!” he exclaimed. He knew about
her troubled past in Illinoi.
“He did!” Lexi sobbed. Thaddeus
wouldn’t stand for that.
“Lexi look at me.” Thaddeus said to
her in a serious tone as he lifted her face toward him so she could see him. “Don’t
believe that for even a minute! You’re not annoying, you’re amazing! It sounds
cliché, but it’s true,” he explained gently and sweetly. Lexi smiled while she was still sobbing.
“You really think I’m amazing?” she asked in a soft tone while her lip trembled. Thaddeus smiled at her.
“I always
have,” he told her. She smiled even bigger. He embraced her and then he wiped
away her tears. “Keep your head up, princess. You don’t want your mascara to
run” he said, smiling. Lexi laughed. After a few minutes, Thaddeus stood up, and held out both of his hands
to her. Lexi grabbed them and he pulled her up and then he gave her a hug.
He suddenly turned silly.
“Care to walk to P.E together, milady?” he asked in a British accent as he held out his arm. Lexi giggled as she slipped her arm in his and those butterflies filled her stomach again. She felt like there was something there that wasn’t there before. (Something there, Beauty and the Beast) Or was it there?
Thaddeus suddenly looked over to where Adam was standing in the hallway. “Actually, there's something I need to do.” he told her. “Follow me.” He walked over to where Adam was standing and tapped him on the shoulder. Adam turned around and he was angry for some reason.
“What?!” Adam exclaimed at Thaddeus, who was also boiling with rage. Thaddeus seemed a little surprised when he found that Adam was angry too.
“I just wanted to let you know
that if you are ever are rude to Lexi again, I will tell all the girls at
school to say no when you ask them on a date because you’re such a player and
they’ll probably get cheated on!” Thaddeus exclaimed angerly. Adam broke into
laughter.
“Well dweeb, that annoying fangirl was
just being a whiny baby. She needs to learn how to take a hit!” Adam laughed.
Thaddeus’s face turned the ugly beat red of anger and he glared at Adam.
“I think you'd better learn to take a hit, because if you don’t leave Lexi alone, that’s exactly what you’ll get!” Thaddeus exclaimed at Adam. Adam laughed harder than ever, but Thaddeus could see a glimmer of fear in his eyes.
“Please! What could you do? You’re just a nerd. You’re no threat,” Adam said crudely. Thaddeus’s turned even more red.
“Excuse me?! What did you just say to me?!” Thaddeus said angerly. Adam started backing away in fear and his foot landed in a mop bucket full of brown and dirty mop water, and he fell over as the brown sludge coated his face and his bronze-colored hair as everyone in the hallway started to laugh. The physics teacher, hearing the commotion ran out of the lesson she was teaching to see Adam, coughing and spluttering in rage and humiliation. The teacher pointed her long finger at Adam.
“Hey! Zeller! Clean this up right now!” Adam walked away, raging as he went to get cleaning supplies. Lexi was smiling really big and giggling.
“Oh, sweet justice!” she exclaimed softly. Thaddeus chuckled and before he even knew what was happening, Lexi was hugging him! “Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you!!” she exclaimed. And then she stood on tiptoe and kissed him on the cheek. Thaddeus's face transitioned to the bright, tomato red of embarrassment.
“Aw shucks, it was nothing,” he said
softly. Lexi shook her head.
“No, it was everything and it was
perfect.” she said as she took his hand and they ran back into the gym together.
Later at basketball practice, Breanna headed in Adam’s direction. “Hey Adam!” she exclaimed from across the room.
“What?” he called. Breanna came over to where Adam was standing.
“I heard what you’ve been doing to my
best friend,” she said sassily. Adam sighed in exasperation.
“Wow, I guess the whole school heard?”
he asked sarcastically. Breanna glared at him.
“Well, I just wanted to let you know that you’re kicked off the team,” she said with a smile. Adam blew his top.
“Hey! You can’t do that!” he whined. Breanna scoffed.
“I’m pretty sure I’m the captain and I
have the authority to kick people off the team. You've been missing practice, and you're graduating in like two months anyway, so why does it matter?” she said, sounding cool as he boiled with rage.
“But how I am supposed to play in the
big game?” he whined at her.
“It was last night! You missed it! I guess you were too busy cheating my best friend. Go sit on the bench of shame.” she said, pointing to the bench. Adam stomped to the bench and huffed as he sat down. One of the guys on the team that happened to be the one Breanna had a crush on ran over to her. His name was Henry.
“Breanna? The game isn’t until tomorrow,” he whispered. Breanna smiled.
“I know that. but he doesn’t need to.”
Breanna said with a smile.
