Chapter 8 of Fangirls, book two :D:D!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 

Chapter 8, Confusion

A few weeks after Mal and Ben’s castle was set on fire, it was the second week in November and Mal was entering the second trimester. She was doing okay except for some miner morning sickness. And soon, the fangirls and Thaddeus would go on Thanksgiving break. They were still very shocked from the recent incident of Hadie setting castle on fire. “Okay, this is really confusing, don’t you think?” Kaylee asked everyone else. Everyone else nodded fervently. 

“Yeah, this really hard to understand. It wasn’t this hard last time!” Gabrielle exclaimed. Breanna elbowed her in the arm and jerked her head in Thaddeus’s direction. But Thaddeus just started laughing.

“Yeah, I was way less confusing! I’m the real villain here!” he said jokingly. They all started laughing then. 

“I’d say you’re the real anti- hero here,” Lexi said, still laughing. Thaddeus beamed with pleasure and pride in is smile.

Soon, they all had to go to class. First, they had History, where they learned about the pilgrims, (Very appropriate for the approaching holiday.) then they had physics. After that, it was lunch period. Lexi was sitting with the fangirls and Thaddeus, then Adam invited her come sit with him. Thaddeus sighed and put his head on the lunch table. Breanna patted him on the shoulder. Later, Thaddeus had to go use the bathroom. But when he walked to the hallway, he saw Lexi and Adam in the hallway, being romantic. He stood in the small corner where the bathrooms were so they wouldn't see him and watched Lexi and Adam as they were walking down the hallway. He started listening to song on earphones. One of his favorite songs titled Gentleman by Will Jay. He started thinking about that he if he were the one that asked Lexi to homecoming that this is how he would treat her. And then, without realizing it of course, he started singing the song. Out loud.

“Hey guys? Thaddeus has been acting so weird lately. Has anyone else noticed?” Kaylee asked. Breanna raised her eyebrows questioningly. 

“What are you talking about?” she asked, a little too innocently. Kaylee gasped. “Wait, do you know something about it?” she asked Breanna.

“Um, well. . .” that was all she got out when Bridgett spoke up.

“You do know something, don’t you?” she asked. Gabrielle just sat in silence.

“What’s going on with him?” Kaylee asked. Breanna winced.

“Well, it’s not exactly my place to tell you that,” she said. But she noticed something.

“Wait, why is Thaddeus singing?” she asked. They went and walked over to where Thaddeus was. He had earbuds in his ears and he was singing Gentleman by Will Jay and he was looking at Lexi. “Guys, I think he’s day dreaming” Breanna laughed. Soon, the song ended. As soon as it did, Breanna and Gabrielle were jumping up and down. 

“Yes! That is exactly how you should treat her!” They exclaimed. Thaddeus jumped. 

“Aah! Oh my gosh, you’re right there. Hi,” he said.

“Still, that is a great way to start!” Breanna praised. Kaylee and Bridgett looked so confused.

“Would someone care to explain what’s going on?” Kaylee asked. Thaddeus sighed and explained the situation. 

“I knew you liked her!” Bridgett exclaimed. Thaddeus started laughing.

“Shhh! Don’t say it so loud she doesn’t know about it!” he told Bridgett. Bridgett nodded.

“Also, next time you’re behind me, maybe you should let know that you’re behind me!” he said to the fangirls. They all nodded. Just then, Lexi came running up to them. 

“Guys! You won’t believe what just happened! Adam just asked me to be his girlfriend!” she exclaimed happily.

“Oh, wow!” Breanna said as she gave Lexi a hug, but her voice sounded a little strained. They told her they were happy for her but Bridgett and Kaylee, now that they knew about the crush, knew this wasn’t good. Thaddeus was smiling on the outside, but on the inside, as was suspected, he was depressed more than ever. He felt like someone had just taken a really heavy frying pan and wacked him in the stomach with it.

“Wait, Thaddeus, were just saying that you had a crush on someone? Who is it?” Lexi asked him. Thaddeus gasped.  Oh no! She heard Bridgett!

Thaddeus thought. “Oh, we’re just talking about someone in kindergarten that Thaddeus used to like and apparently Bridgett knew about it,” Breanna explained. Thaddeus sighed in relief and mouthed to Breanna, “Thank you,”. Breanna gave him a thumbs up and mouthed, 

“I got you.”

After school, they were walking out the doors and heading to Auradon for the meeting. They all walked behind the building and created a portal. Soon they were in Auradon and walking to Mal and Ben’s castle, which had been repaired. They came in to the living room as usual and they were served hot chocolate with ice cream in it. And it was delicious. Strange, but delicious. Soon, Mal came in. Mal seemed super energetic for some reason. “Hello everyone!” she greeted them cheerfully. Lexi looked so very confused. 

“Hello. You are so energetic,” Lexi said to Mal. For Mal, this was definitely uncharacteristic. Meanwhile Thaddeus was chuckling. 

“She’s in the second trimester. You sometimes have really high energy when in the second trimester,” Thaddeus explained. Lexi smiled.

“Oh, that’s interesting! Where did you learn that?” Lexi asked. Thaddeus smiled too.

“I learned it in health class. Also, I remember when my mom was pregnant with Hadley, she was super energetic at one point,” he explained and then he frowned a little bit. He hadn’t thought about his mom in a while and he missed her. Lexi gave him a sympathetic smile and put her arm around him before answering.

 “Oh, yeah. I remember learning that. I guess I’ve had a lot on my mind lately” Lexi sighed. Thaddeus nodded. 

“That makes sense,” Thaddeus agreed. Soon, Ben walked into the living room and kissed Mal on her forehead which made her smile and made the fangirls swoon. Thaddeus started laughing.

“You guys are such hopeless romantics,” Thaddeus chuckled. Breanna looked over at him as everyone went to sit down. 

“Look who’s talking,” she mouthed. Thaddeus rolled his eyes. Soon, the meeting began like always and Camelot was having problems again. Like last time. Then, Lexi started noticing a sound that sounded like it was coming from out of the window that had been going he whole time. It sounded like hooting. 

“What’s that sound? It sounds like it’s coming from outside the window” Lexi told them. Mal shook her head.  

“I don’t know,” Mal said. Ben walked over to the window and opened it. It was Merlin’s owl, Arcmides and he had a note tied to his leg. Ben untied the note. 

“It’s about time you noticed me out here!” He exclaimed and flew off.  And then, Ben read the note aloud. It read,

Come to Camelot as quickly as you can! The castle caught fire and we don’t know why or how it happened!

Ben and Mal looked at each other, looking scared. “That’s what happened to you guys!” Kaylee cried. Mal nodded. 

“Yeah,” she sighed softly.

“We need to go!” Lexi exclaimed. Ben nodded.

“But it’s a two-day journey to Camelot. How will get there in time?” he asked. Lexi laughed.

“I know a quicker way!” she replied in sing-song voice. Then she jumped up from her seat and walked to a place to a certain place in the room. Then she opened a portal, screamed “Camelot!” and ordered everyone to jump in. Within seconds, they were in Camelot. Mal immediately ran over to a grassy field and threw up. Everyone groaned and Ben ran over to her. 

“Okay, putting a pregnant lady in a portal. That was poor planning on my part. Sorry!” Lexi shouted to Mal. Mal did a thumbs up but did not answer. After Mal was done um, well you know, Ben put his arm around her. 

“Are you okay?” he asked. Mal nodded and put her arm around him too. Breanna sighed. 

“Okay, very romantic. So sweet. Clock is ticking guys!” Breanna said. So, they started walking down to the castle and yes it was burning to the ground. They ran over to Merlin and Arthur. 

“Do you guys still not know what happened here?” Ben asked. They shook their heads. but then, they saw two people coming out of the rubble. Two people dressed in black no less. Mal ran forward and ran in front of the figures, fully expecting to see Hadie again. And she did. But she didn’t just see Hadie. It was Yen Sid as well. The whole group gasped, including Merlin and Arthur. But Yen Sid and Hadie ran off before they could say anything to them.
