Chapter 2 A better family school

As soon as Summer was over, family school started up again. Lexi was so excited and nervous to go back. Like I said before, some things never change. Thaddeus had prepared to ask Lexi to homecoming a few weeks after school started. He was nervous too. So, they had history first with Mrs. Roberts. “She still teaches here?” Lexi asked. Breanna nodded. 

“Her kid hasn’t graduated yet, so yeah,” Lexi sighed.

“Oh, great,” she said sarcastically. Kaylee laughed. 

“She’s not so bad about talking anymore, though,” she said. So, they had history, then physics, taught by Mrs. Parker. 

“She’s new,” Lexi said. Bridgett smiled.

“New, but awesome! She is the best teacher,” she explained. And she wasn’t lying, Mrs. Parker was great. Then, they all had lunch together like they used too. Lexi felt happy. She felt like her life was returning to normal. Then, they had art with Mrs. Baker. Lexi was glad. Art was her favorite class when she was here before. After that, they had P.E with coach Harriet. She was really nice, but also kind of scary and intense. She made you do five push-ups if you weren’t listening. Lexi was sad that they didn’t have book club anymore. That was her other favorite class. After that, they held cheer tryouts. Lexi tried out, and she made the team. She was really happy when she got the news. She was on the team before, so she was basically a shoe-in. Then as she was leaving the gym, she saw the basketball tryouts start. Breanna was the captain and a boy was her co-captain.  He’s kind of cute,

She thought as she walked out.

 

 

A few weeks after that, she heard and noticed some things about Breanna’s co-captain. That his name was Adam Zeller, he was into basketball obviously, and a couple school days later, (The little kids started later than the older ones.) she had seen him help his little sister find her classroom and console her because she was nervous. And then to top it off, he had opened her door for Lexi before he went to his class. Lexi was kind of crushing on him throughout the whole day. The next week, she had decided to talk to him during lunch. Get to know him, maybe ask him on a date if it came down to that. Lexi stood up from the table at lunch that day. So, she walked down the hall and found him. “Hi Adam. My name’s Lexi. We met the other week,” she said. Adam nodded.

“Yeah, I actually had a question for you. I was wondering if you would go to homecoming with me?”

 

“Hey guys, Lexi is acting weird,” Breanna said. The others nodded.

“I know, right? Why is she acting weird?” Bridgett asked. Breanna chuckled dryly.

“I’ve got a theory” she said. “She’s got a crush somebody!” she exclaimed. The others gasped.

“Okay yeah I totally see now” Kaylee said. Gabrielle nodded.

“I can’t believe I didn’t see it before!” then she got a dark look on her face and leaned over to Breanna. “Wait, this could blow up in Thaddeus’s face if it’s not him!” Gabrielle whispered fiercely. Breanna nodded. 

“We got to go and tell him,” She whispered back.

Thaddeus was sitting with his family at lunch. Hailey had gone to college so; Thaddeus and Austin were the oldest ones now. Just then, he saw Breanna and Gabrielle running toward his table. “What’s going on?” Thaddeus asked. Breanna sat down on the vacant chair on the other side of Thaddeus.

“Please tell me you planned to ask her today,” she said. Thaddeus nodded. “Yeah. Why?” he asked.

“She’s got a crush on somebody and we’re not sure whether it’s you or not” Gabrielle said. Thaddeus gasped. 

“I have to go ask her now! How’s my hair?” he asked. Breanna huffed.

“It looks fine. Go!” she exclaimed. So, Thaddeus set off to find Lexi. He had seen Lexi walk down the hall so he headed toward the door to the gym. He walked down the hallway, trying to swallow down his nerves, when he saw Lexi hugging Adam Zeller and saying 

“Yes, yes I will!” she sounded excited and like she just got asked to homecoming. Thaddeus suddenly felt like his stomach dropped in into his toes. And Breanna saw it too. 

“Oh, no," she whispered to Gabrielle as Gabrielle nodded. Thaddeus walked back to the gym where they ate lunch, so they wouldn’t see him. When he came back, Breanna gave him a hug. 

“Are you okay?” she asked. Thaddeus shook his head.

“No.” he said. Then Lexi came back to where the girls and Thaddeus were sitting.

“Adam Zeller just asked me to homecoming!” she squealed.

Then she noticed Thaddeus’s long face. “Are you okay, Thaddeus?” she asked. Thaddeus forced a smile on his face. 

“Yeah, I’m fine,” he said. But then we went over to the trash can and put the bouquet of flowers in the trash.
