Chapter 4 Excitement and fear

A few weeks after Adam asked Lexi to homecoming, the girls one Saturday decided to go homecoming dress shopping. Breanna had been asked to homecoming by a guy on her basketball team that she had a crush on, so she had obviously said yes. Bridgett and Kaylee had gotten asked to homecoming too, but as this was Gabrielle’s second year going to homecoming, she had not gotten asked yet. But Lexi’s mom was driving them all Dillard’s to get dresses. After they all got their dresses, they went to Starbucks to get some cake-pops and strawberry frappe chinos. “Okay, for the straw wrapper today, I’m rekindling my old fangirl and doing King Ben for the wrapper!” she announced. There is this one thing that you can do with a straw wrapper, where you think of a guy that you like, then make something that looks like a breast cancer ribbon, and then you take one of the edges of the straw wrapper and pull it through the lope and pull both ends. If it ends in a knot, the guy you thought of is “Knot” thinking of you. If it doesn’t, he is thinking of you. Lexi did the straw wrapper thing, and it ended in a knot. Lexi sighed and faked being angry. “You’re married, fine!” she said. All of the sudden, Lexi’s phone started ringing. She knew it was Ben calling, because she set her ringtone for him to Did I mention. “Ahh! He heard me! Okay,” she said as she picked up the phone. “Hello?” she answered, but she still sounded a little startled.

“Hi, why do you sound so rattled?” Ben asked. Lexi recovered quickly.

“Uh, no reason, what’s up?” she asked.
“We want you guys to come to Auradon. We have some news that we don’t want tell you on the phone. We want to see your reaction,” he explained. Lexi looked confused and excited at the same time.

“Sure, but let us get permission first,”

“See, you’re responsible. I like that,” he said. Lexi smiled and blushed.

“Oh, thank you!” she said. “Okay, see you in minute," and hung up.

“What do you think he’s going to tell us?” Gabrielle said. Breanna shrugged.

“I don’t know. Wait, do you guys think that Mal could be pregnant?” she asked. Lexi gasped.

“Well, now she better be,” Lexi said. So, they all got permission to go to Auradon, and created a portal and met up with Mal and Ben. Thaddeus came too. He was doing okay considering Adam asked Lexi to homecoming first. 

“So, what was that something you had to tell us?” Thaddeus asked. Mal smiled at the question. 

“Well, I’m pregnant,” she said. There was an uproar. They all started squealing really loudly.

“Yes! It is about time!” Lexi shrieked. Mal’s eyes widened.

“What do you mean by that?” she asked. Lexi cleared her throat awkwardly.

“I mean you have been married for five years and- Breanna cut her off.

“Stop talking,” she advised. Lexi nodded.

“Good idea.” she said. Almost all of the fangirls started asking Mal some questions, when an earthquake started.

Everyone was freaking out, but it eventually stopped. “Are you okay?” Ben asked Mal. He was really protective of her right now. Even more than usual. Mal nodded.

“Another earthquake! That makes ten this month!” Mal exclaimed, shaking her head. The fangirls and their one yes-fanboy all gasped in unison and gave each other dark looks. 

“Oh no, that’s not good. Why are you gasping like that?” Ben asked concernedly.

“You don’t think that this could have something to do with the catacombs of doom, do you?” Lexi asked. Mal looked confused. 

“How do you know about the catacombs? Those weren’t in the documentaries,” she said. Thaddeus sighed. 

“They wrote books too, you know. In Return to the Isle of the Lost, the second one, they talk about the catacombs of doom and there were a lot of earthquakes,” he explained. Mal and Ben nodded and Lexi smiled. 

“You read the books too? The second one is my favorite!” she exclaimed.

“I don’t know, the third one was pretty great,” Thaddeus said. Breanna laughed.

“Guys!” she said and pointed back to Mal and Ben.

“Right,” Lexi said and started paying attention again. Ben shrugged.

“Well, it could be the catacombs of doom again. It could be that Madam Mim is upset again,” Ben said. Mal felt fear rise in her. That dream she had. 

“It could be Mad Maddy,” she whispered. “Just Mad Maddy to do Madam Mim’s dirty work,” she said. Ben put an arm around Mal and gave her a hug. 

“But she won’t come to get you if I have anything to say about it,” Ben told her reassuringly. Mal smiled and hugged him back. Lexi looked at them, somewhat excitedly. 

“Does this mean we’re saving Auradon again?” Lexi asked. Mal thought about it. This could mean that there was mischief going down again. Maybe someone heard about the royal baby and now, they were after Mal, Ben and the baby.

“I think we should be on guard and we’ll let you if something happens again,” Mal said. Just as she did, a lightning strike went down and landed right next to Mal and Ben. Thaddeus screamed and started going into an anxiety attack. He still had post-traumatic stress disorder from getting struck by lightning when he was twelve. Everyone looked at him in concern and Lexi put her arm around his shoulders. 

“Are you okay?” she asked. Thaddeus nodded, but he didn’t look okay. Lexi told him that everything was okay and to take some deep breaths. After that everyone went inside Mal and Ben’s castle. As soon as they were inside, the living room and they had some hot chocolate, they all started discussing what to do. Thaddeus was calm now that they were inside. 

“So, maybe we should start meeting up on regular basis and discussing what we should do and gave an update on things that are happening here,” Ben explained. “Sort of like a, a- he cut himself off while he was thinking about it. 

“A council meeting?” Gabrielle suggested. Ben nodded.

“Yes! A council meeting,” he said. “Is that good with everyone? Maybe a council meeting after school on Wednesday?” he asked. Everyone nodded. Lexi’s heart was pounding, as they were about to protect Auradon from danger, yet again.
