Lexi and Thaddeus: Cute little moments๐
Lexi and Thaddeus’s dancing scene (somewhere between chapter
eight and chapter nine)
When Lexi heard the doorbell ring, she jumped right up to
answer it. “Hi!” she greeted cheerfully as she wrapped her arms around Adam’s
neck.
“Hey,” he said back. “Are you ready?”
“Yep!” Lexi replied as they both walked to living room and
turned on the TV and went on to U Tube so they could learn to dance for
homecoming. Lexi and Adam watched a few tutorials for swing dancing and slow
dancing and had only just started on swing dancing, when Adam’s phone started
to ring. He answered to an urgent sort of voice and their conversation did not
sound promising. When he hung up, he turned back to Lexi.
“I’m sorry, Lexi but I’m going to have to leave,”
Lexi frowned. “What? Why?”
“Um, my sister fell down and hurt her leg and my parents had
to take her to the ER and they need me,” Adam explained.
“Oh, no! Well, tell your sister to get well,” Lexi said
concernedly as she gave Adam a quick hug.
“I will.” he said as he walked out of the door. Lexi sat
down on the couch, looking defeated. Adam was always going somewhere when he
was spending time with her, though, this time it wasn’t really his fault. Still,
though. What was this about? She was still sitting on the couch and stewing
about her latest problem, when the doorbell rang a second time that day. Lexi
stood up, sighed, and walked over to the door. Lexi was a little surprised to
see Thaddeus standing there in her doorway.
“Oh, hey!” Lexi greeted as she stood on her toes and hugged
him. Thaddeus couldn’t help smiling as she pulled away. “What are you doing
here?”
“Um, you left this at school the other day,” Thaddeus
replied, handing Lexi a soft, lavender scarf.
“Oh, thank you! I was wondering where this was. Did you want
to come in?” Lexi asked. Thaddeus chewed on his lip a little bit.
“Oh, no, I couldn’t interrupt,” he said. Lexi shook her head,
frowning slightly.
“There’s nothing to interrupt. There’s no one here,” she
explained. Thaddeus nodded.
“Well, okay, if you want me here,” he replied. Lexi smiled.
“Thank you so much,” she said gratefully. As Thaddeus
stepped through the doorway, he turned to Lexi.
“Are you all right, Lex? You seem kind of sad,” he remarked.
Lexi shrugged.
“I mean, it’s not really anything much, but Adam and I were
practicing dancing for homecoming and he had to go earlier than I anticipated,”
she explained.
“What? Why?” Thaddeus quired, trying to seem less bothered
by that than he actually was.
“Oh, it was a family emergency, but still,” Lexi sighed.
Thaddeus waited for Lexi to elaborate, but she did not.
“‘Still’ what?” Thaddeus wondered. Lexi frowned again,
thinking again about her earlier neglection feeling.
“It’s just that Adam seems to always have these family
emergencies and that he’s so busy all of the time,” Lexi explained.
“So, you feel neglected?” Thaddeus clarified. Lexi nodded
slowly.
“Yeah, kind of. And I don’t when we’ll be able to practice
dancing again because he’s constantly busy,” she lamented.
“Well, I could help you with dancing, if you want,” Thaddeus
suggested shyly. Lexi thought about it for a moment.
“Actually, that would be great! Thank you!” she said
gratefully. Thaddeus smiled.
“Sure. So, what did you and Adam start learning?” he asked
as Lexi led him into the living room.
“Swing dancing and waltz,” Lexi told him.
“Well, you’re in luck. I know how to do both of those,”
Thaddeus replied.
“Great!” grinned Lexi as she turned on some music. Thaddeus
grabbed both of Lexi’s hands and pulled her toward him. Lexi couldn’t help
letting out a sharp squeal as she remembered that Thaddeus was VERY experienced
in swing dancing. “Wow! Remind me, how long have you been doing this?” Lexi
wondered.
“About eight years,” Thaddeus told her as he twirled her
around.
“I’ll bet you really like doing this, huh?” Lexi said.
“Mainly I just wanted to learn so I could be prepared for
all of the dances,” Thaddeus informed Lexi.
“Oh, nice! I’ve been thinking about joining that class,”
Lexi replied.
“You should. It’s fun,” Thaddeus told her. Lexi giggled at
the thought.
“Maybe I’ll even be able to convince Adam to join it, too!”
she said excitedly. Thaddeus tried to disguise the frown he was trying to hide
as a smile as he thought that if Lexi had to convince Adam to join the
class, he wasn’t for her.
“Oh, that might be fun for you,” he said, trying not to
sound disdainful about it. “So,” he added awkwardly as the song ended. “You
seem pretty good at swing dancing. How about waltzing?”
“We actually never got around to that. I’m hoping you can
teach me how to do it well?” Lexi hinted. Thaddeus chuckled.
“Okay. Put on some music, then,” he said, his smile becoming
more real than before. Lexi picked her phone up and put her little playlist of
slow songs that she prepared for today on shuffle. The first thing that started
playing was the song, “Perfect” by Ed Sheeran. Thaddeus jokingly grinned and
bowed to Lexi.
“May I have this dance?” he said, even though he was just
kidding around, he sounded strangely charming. Lexi laughed.
“Why, of course, dear sir,” she giggled in a mock British
accent as she curtsied to Thaddeus. Thaddeus took Lexi’s right hand and put it
on his shoulder and then took her left in his right. Then he moved his left
hand to Lexi’s waist as Lexi’s breath hitched. Thaddeus hadn’t had his hand on
her waist like that since they were grade schoolers. She didn’t have much time
to dwell on this, though. Thaddeus was leading her through the waltz and she
needed to pay attention.
“One, two, three, one, two, three,” Thaddeus counted as he
led Lexi around in a slow circle. “You’re doing great!” he added as Lexi smiled
up at him.
“Thanks!” she said back. Thaddeus slowly started turning
Lexi around in bigger circles until they found that they were not in the living
room anymore, but in the kitchen!
“You’re really good, Lexi! You seem to have a knack for
this,” Thaddeus praised.
“Well, you’re the one leading,” Lexi replied, blushing.
Thaddeus smiled.
“Yes, but don’t you think that you would have tripped or
something if you weren’t good?” he said. Lexi giggled.
“I probably would have. Thank you,” she said. Just as
quickly as the song began, the song ended and a new one began! This time, it
was “So Close” from Enchanted. “Oh, I love this one!” Lexi said happily.
“I do, too!” Thaddeus remarked as he twirled Lexi around. “I
also love this movie,”
“Me, too! I love the part where Giselle and Robert have true
love’s kiss!” Lexi sighed dreamily. Thaddeus chuckled.
“That sounds like you,” he said as he twirled Lexi around
again and dipped her. “I love how Giselle actually finds love with her actual
true love and how they both learn what love really is, you know?”
Lexi smiled. “I do.” Lexi couldn’t understand, but Thaddeus
and her actually had a lot more in common than she had realized. The thing that
she didn’t understand about it, was how it was making her feel. Lexi had never
felt closer to Thaddeus and she didn’t just mean physically. There was this
fluttering in her heart like a thousand Monarch butterflies had suddenly moved
in that she had never felt before and it wouldn’t go away. It was terrifying in
a way, but she didn’t really want it to go away for that matter. For that fact,
she almost wanted to stay with her forever.
As Thaddeus led Lexi in the waltz, he found it was hard to
focus on the dance and even harder to ignore his feelings for Lexi. He had been
trying to ignore them for so long, but it was so hard for him. He had missed
her, more than he cared to admit. Now he was here with her, dancing with her,
being there for her. He was always being her friend, which wasn’t a problem
with him, but it wasn’t easy to be her friend when he had to see her with
someone else every day. Adam wasn’t even treating her well! Thaddeus just
wished he could protect Lexi from him, but he couldn’t think of a way that he
could. He also wished he could be with her, like this every day. Thaddeus was
always filled with this hopeless longing when he was around Lexi that he could
never act on. Thaddeus was happy to be here with Lexi, though. Even just as
friends. He was always happy to see her and be with her. As the song started to
come to the chorus, he once again twirled Lexi and dipped her. When Thaddeus
started bringing Lexi back up to her standing height, it seemed the passionate
feeling that Thaddeus was feeling had reached Lexi, too and at the same time,
they both began leaning into each other.
The moment stopped as quickly as it had started. Their lips
had almost touched, but Lexi pulled away as she tried to catch her breath.
“Wait, stop,” she whispered. “I- I can’t- we can’t-“
“I… know. I’m sorry, you’re right,” Thaddeus whispered hopelessly.
“I think you have to go,” Lexi sighed, actually sounding
depressed. Thaddeus nodded, even though he was as gloomy as Lexi was.
“You’re right.” Thaddeus repeated as he started back through
the living room, reliving the memories glorious but tragic evening as he opened
the door and stepped out to face the world again. Lexi ran to the door, the
music still playing as the chorus of the song faded into the bridge, so fitting
to the situation Lexi was in. Lexi leaned against the closed door and started
to slide down into a sitting position just as tears started flowing from her
eyes. She wasn’t entirely sure, but she thought she heard a few sniffles from
the other side of the door.
Thaddeus had sat there against Lexi’s front door for an
unknown amount time, his hands over his eyes, the tips of his fingers running
through his hair. He just couldn’t stop the whole moment from replaying over
and over again in his head as he choked back the cries had been holding back
forever. He would have to get home, though. His family would be wondering where
he was. As he got into his car, the feeling of loss for the girl of his dreams
was worse than it ever had been. He just didn’t even know what to do with
himself! Thaddeus didn’t know why he was feeling this way. It didn’t make any
sense why he was feeling this way. He and Lexi were never meant to be. Friends
don’t feel this way about each other, do they? No. They don’t.
