Chapter 8 of the Fangirls, book two rewrite!!!!!!:D:D
Chapter 8
After the fiasco of Mal and Ben’s castle being set on fire,
they imprisoned Yen Sid, but they had yet to find out who the real villain was.
And Mal had entered the second trimester, so she had slightly more energy and
(to Ben’s relief,) the morning sickness was finally relenting. But it was
November and they still hadn’t uncovered the bad guy. “Okay, this is getting
really confusing,” Kaylee sighed, sounding slightly annoyed. Gabrielle bobbed
her head up and down.
“I know, right? It wasn’t this hard to figure out last
time!”
Breanna elbowed Gabrielle in the arm and jerked her head in
Thaddeus’s direction. Thaddeus, however, just burst out laughing.
“Yeah! I was way less confusing! I’m the real villain
here!” he snickered. Lexi giggled.
“I’d say you’re the real anti-hero here,” Lexi smiled.
Thaddeus grinned with pride and pleasure in his smile. First, they had history,
and then physics and then lunch. Lexi had just sat down with her friends when
Adam called her over to sit with him. Thaddeus groaned and layed his head on
the table and Gabrielle put her hand on his shoulder.
“Are you okay, Thaddeus?” she asked gently. Thaddeus lifted
his head from their table and nodded. He started thinking about Adam and Lexi
and how Adam was acting like a jerk to him and how Adam never even opened
Lexi’s doors like a gentleman would. That made Thaddeus think of a song he used
to like. It was called Gentleman by Will Jay. He used to say to himself that
when he was older, he would be like the song described. Thaddeus started
remember and think about the lyrics as the song started to play in his head.
And then, without realizing it, he started to sing the song. Out loud.
“Lexi, may I ask you something?” Adam whispered, kissing
Lexi’s hand. Lexi giggled.
“Of course, Adam,” she replied. Adam grinned, showing off
his perfect white teeth.
“Would you, Lexi Pieper, be my girlfriend?” he asked.
“Yes! Of course!” Lexi exclaimed, wrapping her arms around
Adam’s neck.
“Excellent! And I got you this!” Adam said, handing Lexi a
light pink gift bag. “This is your favorite color, right?” he asked, meaning
the color of the bag.
“Um, yes, one of them,” Lexi said, a little awkwardly as she
reached into the bag and pulled out a new blouse and eye liner. “Oh, thank you!”
she said as she studied the blouse. “Oh, I’m sorry, Adam, but this is two sizes
too small,”
Adam nodded as he crossed his arms. “Uh huh.”
“Um, Thaddeus?” Breanna asked, tapping him on the shoulder.
Thaddeus turned to her.
“Yes?”
“That was brilliant! That is exactly how you should treat
her!”
Thaddeus gave Breanna confused look.
“What do you mean?” he said.
“You were singing that song. The one about a gentleman?” she
questioned. Thaddeus blushed and sighed deeply.
“I started singing it?”
Gabrielle nodded.
“Yeah! You have a great singing voice!” she complimented.
“Um, thanks.” Thaddeus replied awkwardly.
“Would someone care to explain what’s going on here?” Kaylee
said suddenly as Bridgett nodded. Thaddeus sighed again.
“Can you keep a secret?” he asked.
“Yes,” Kaylee replied.
“Okay.” Thaddeus said and explained all of it. Bridgett and
Kaylee gasped and squealed.
“I knew it! I knew you still liked her!” Bridgett giggled.
Thaddeus put a finger to his lips.
“Shh! She doesn’t know about it and I’d like to keep it that
way.” he informed them. Kaylee and Bridgett both nodded, swearing to the
secrecy of it all. Just then, Lexi came running back to them with the biggest
grin on her face.
“You guys! Adam just asked me to be his girlfriend! He even
was nice enough to get some new eye liner and a new blouse!” she shrieked
excitedly as she showed them the fancy light pink shirt with lace at the collar.
“Oh, that’s great!” Breanna said, but it sounded a little
bit strained as she gave Lexi a hug. Bridgett and Kaylee were happy for Lexi,
but now that they knew about Thaddeus’s crush on her, they knew he must not be
feeling great about it. And they were right. Thaddeus smiled on the outside,
but inside he was just having a jumble of emotions and none of them were pleasant.
He also felt like someone had taken a really heavy frying pan and walloped him
in the stomach with it. Then Lexi looked at Thaddeus.
“Wait, was Bridgett talking about you having a crush on
someone? Ooh, who is it?” she wondered. Thaddeus gasped softly.
Uh oh! She heard Bridgett! He thought in a panic.
Breanna grinned at Lexi.
“Oh, we were just talking about Thaddeus’s old kindergarten
crush and apparently Bridgett knew about it,”
“Oh, okay.” Lexi said. Thaddeus breathed a heavy sigh of
relief and looked over at Breanna.
“Thank you.” He mouthed. Breanna smiled and gave him a
thumbs up.
“I got you.” She mouthed back.
After school, the fangirls and Thaddeus headed to Auradon
for their weekly meeting. Once they walked into the council room, Mal instantly
stood up and ran over to them.
“Hey guys!” she said. Lexi just stood there.
“Since when are you this energetic?” she wondered, knowing
full well this was most uncharacteristic. Thaddeus laughed.
“She’s in second trimester. Most women who are in the second
trimester get super energetic at that point,” Thaddeus explained. Lexi raised
her eyebrows.
“Oh, yeah! We learned that class!” Lexi realized. Soon
after, the meeting started and they had finally tracked Madam Mim down and
imprisoned her, but that didn’t seem to do anything either. After just a few
minutes, Lexi noticed a tapping sound at the window. At first, she just tried
to ignore it. But then it persisted after two minutes. “Do you guys hear that?”
she asked finally. Breanna nodded.
“Yeah, I’ve been hearing that for about three minutes. I
think it’s coming from the window,” Breanna said, pointing over to one of the
windows on the far wall. Ben hurried to the window and saw an owl.
“Arcmides?” he questioned. He opened the window.
“It’s about time you noticed me out here! The castle in
Camelot is on fire! Hurry up and get in a portal!” he said as he flew in.
“Would one of you create a portal?” Ben asked. Breanna
complied and created a portal and everyone jumped through. Within twenty
seconds, they touched down right in front of the burning castle, where about
one hundred knights were trying to put it out.
“What happened?” Mal inquired, sounding concerned. King
Aurther, who was standing next to them, shook his head.
“I don’t know! It seems like an enchantment to me!” he
exclaimed. Just then, they saw another black hooded figure. “Halt!” King
Aurther yelled and yanked off the hood. It was Hadie. Mal gasped.
“Hadie, what are you doing?”
Hadie just cackled, which was most definitely not like him
at all and he ran off into the setting sun.
